Cyber Security Talk at Annual Parish Meeting – 19 May

The Annual Parish Meeting will be held on Monday 19th May at the Village Hall starting at 7.30 pm. The meeting will start with a talk about cyber security given by village resident Daniel Versace.

Daniel is a seasoned cyber security architect at the BBC, with over 15 years of experience in IT and eight years specifically in Information Security. He holds a postgraduate degree in Cyber Security and numerous professional qualifications. He is passionate about educating others on online safety and is dedicated to inspiring the next generation to pursue careers in technology.

This will followed by a short break for tea, coffee and biscuits, organised by Little Owls.  Little Owls Pre-school offers quality care and education for children aged 2 to 4 years.  The Pre-school works in partnership with parents and carers to help children learn and develop, whilst adding to the life and well-being of the local community.  Donations for the refreshments would be gratefully appreciated.

After the refreshment break there will be a report from the Chairman of the Parish Council highlighting major events that have happened in the last twelve months.

Then it is your turn to raise any questions you have or ideas that would make the village an even better place to live.

EWR Public Meeting – 14 January 2025

Haslingfield Parish Council Public Meeting on EAST WEST RAIL’s Public consultation

Come and have your say!

East West Rail (EWR) has invited comments on its new plan for the southern route for the railway. The deadline for responses by organisations and individuals is 24th January 2025 (https://eastwestrail.co.uk/feedback).

The Parish Council is seriously concerned about the impact the new southern EWR route would have on our village. Our key issues with this option are:

  • the design of the tunnel under Chapel Hill – we would prefer a longer tunnel and shorter cuttings to minimise impacts on the village and surrounding countryside
  • construction vehicles must not be allowed through the village
  • all working sites must be located at least 150m from residential homes
  • the duration of construction in Haslingfield should be minimised
  • an ombudsman should be appointed to resolve any urgent complaints about EWR or its contractors during construction.

The Parish Council still actively opposes an EWR route south of Cambridge, but we must respond to this consultation for the new southern route and want to hear your views.

Please join us for a zoom meeting on 14th January from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The meeting with be chaired by Councillor Ruth Hatfield and all are welcome.

Haslingfield Neighbourhood Plan – next steps

Haslingfield Neighbourhood Plan – the next step

Fancy a cuppa?  All welcome!

The Big Conversation event in June started us talking about Haslingfield’s future.  Now the Haslingfield Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group would like to invite you to a series of mini conversations over a cup of tea or coffee to delve deeper into some of the topics raised in June.

We are planning a series of these ‘tea parties’ to cover a range of topics over the coming months.   These will be small, informal groups of people getting together to talk with our neighbours about specific issues.  The Steering Group will use the information we gather from these events to help shape the policies of our Neighbourhood Plan.

This is an opportunity to find out more about real issues that the Neighbourhood Plan can address for our village – and a chance for you to be involved in making that happen.

The first three tea parties are listed below.  Anyone is welcome to attend one or all of these events.

Affordable and Sustainable Housing   Sunday 6th October

This tea party could interest those who:

  • Are concerned about lack of affordable housing in the Parish for those on low incomes, with young families, who are looking to downsize for health or other issues or who just want a smaller home.
  • Are thinking about developing local land and want input into our local planning policies.
  • Are concerned about the environmental impacts of building works and what our Neighbourhood Plan policies can do to address them.

Biodiversity, Resilience and Energy                Sunday 20th October

This covers a huge set of topics.  In this first discussion we will look to get an overview of all three, what policies are available and begin to focus on where residents’ energies and enthusiasm lie.

Connections, Transport and Travel      Sunday 10th November

This topic was listed as very important by many residents.  We’ll explore the possibilities a Neighbourhood Plan can and can’t influence, and start formulating policies.

Time for all three events:  3.00 – 5.00pm

Venue for all three events:  The Community Room at Wisbey’s Yard

Haslingfield and Harlton Youth Survey

Are you aged 11-18 and a resident of Haslingfield or Harlton?  If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Haslingfield Parish Council has put together a short survey to find out the good and bad bits of being a young person in Haslingfield and Harlton.  We’ll be looking at your answers to see if there is anything else we can provide or help with, to make growing up here a better experience.

As a thank you for completing our survey, if you would like to enter into our prize draw to win 1kg of Pick N Mix, there’s a space for you to leave your email address at the end.  (This email address will only be used to contact the winner of the prize draw, and will be deleted after the survey results are in.)  Surveys can also be completed anonymously.  To complete the survey (less than 5 minutes), please go to: https://forms.gle/NmRegrRVgupSD2xs9

The survey will be live until 30 August 2024.
